One of the first buses purchased by the new Greater Winnipeg Transit Commission (GWTC) in 1954 is seen running westbound on Portage Avenue, just west of Main Street in the late 1950s. The big Flxible Twin Coach (model FT2D-40) seated 52, and was intended to duplicate the capacity of the streetcars they replaced in 1955, the 75 Twins ushered in the era of large, diesel-powered buses in the simplified GWTC paint scheme. The system would progress through several more generations of vehicles over the next 70 years.
