CTHF arranged to have a former Hamilton Street Railway heritage bus displayed on November 5-6 at the 2017 Forum meeting of the Canadian Urban Transit Association held in Richmond Hill, ON, with York Region Transit as host.
Ex-HSR 517 is a 1957 General Motors Corporation “Old Look” bus, model TDH-4512, which operated in Hamilton until 1977, and was then acquired by the City of Brampton along with 8 others to help expand transit service in the city at that time. CTHF President Chris Prentice, as then Director of Transit, arranged for the purchase of the buses from the HSR. 5741 operated in Brampton Transit services for eight years. In 1985, Brampton donated the bus to the Ontario Electric Railway Historical Association (OERHA), the current owner of the bus.
Thanks to Peter Chatoff, CTHF Director, for his work in preparing the bus for exhibit. While 517 currently does not run, CTHF and other supporters are working on its possible restoration to operating condition which we are hopeful can be completed in the near future.
At this event, artwork for the joint CTHF/CUTA Canada 150 initiative was also on display.
