Join us for our next presentation on June 20, 2025 at 7:30PM Eastern!
The June 2025 Electric Railroaders Association presentation by Charles Bogart and Angus McIntyre will examine the history of trolley coaches in Canada from a geographical perspective, starting from east to west. Maps will locate each city’s location in the country, and trolley overhead maps and rosters are provided. The talk will feature many archival photos and period advertising. The time frame will cover the years from 1922 to the present day, with a more detailed section for Vancouver at the end. This may be ERA’s first presentation exclusively on the history of Canada’s iconic trolley coach networks and is not to be missed! It is also another collaboration between ERA and our friends at he Canadian Transit Heritage Foundation (CTHF). Numerous ERA members also members of CTHF. Check out transitheritage.ca for more information on joining and their fine Bulletin publication.
Mr. Bogart holds a BA from Thomas More University and a MCP from Ohio State University. As a child growing up in Newport, Kentucky, he rode the local streetcar line and developed a fascination with streetcars. He is President of the North American Transit Historical Society (often referred to as the “Hoosier Traction Meet”) and has published a book — Yellow Sparks Over The Bluegrass — on streetcar operations in Kentucky. Mr. McIntyre, who is representing CTHF tonight, was born in Toronto in 1947, and grew up as a keen transit observer. Family moves took them near and in Melbourne, Australia where for 5 years as a teenager his love of electric traction sparked. At age 21 he started a career as a trolley bus driver in Vancouver that lasted 41 years until retirement 15 years ago.
