As of this post, the Toronto Transit Commission is celebrating 100 years of operation. The Commission which came into being as of September 1, 1921. The Toronto Transportation Commission (which would be later renamed to the Toronto Transit Commission) began operating, as the franchises of the former Toronto Civic Railway and Toronto Railway Company expired the day prior: August 31, 1921.
To mark the occasion, staff at the City of Toronto and the Toronto Transit Commission, have compiled a web exhibition, which showcases the beginnings of public transportation in Toronto: from the days of the horse-cars to the present day.
